Today STS LORD NELSON ย needs your help! Without urgent restoration work, this iconic vessel may be lost forever! Good Pirates was formed to carry out this important project!ย
The STS Lord Nelson is one of the worldโs most extraordinary tall ships โ a proud three-masted barque built to enable people of all physical abilities to sail, learn, and thrive together. Designed for inclusive sail training, she has helped countless individuals discover confidence, teamwork, and adventure.
Every donation goes 100% to the restoration effort: ย This platform ย does not charge ย fees and our crew are volunteers, meaning donations go directly to the ship for repairs and upgrades where they are needed most! ย No office, ย staff or overhead, we are pirates of compassion on a mission for the Planet!ย
Your support will help:
- Repair structural and mechanical elements essential to safety and future sailing
- Restore key safety systems to return the ship to operational condition
- Preserve an iconic and much loved vessel that has inspired generations
Whether itโs a small gift or a larger contribution, your donation helps keep alive a rare symbol of inclusion and maritime heritage. Please give what you can โ and share this appeal with your friends and community.

THE BACKSTORY:ย For years the Sail Training Ship Lord Nelson โ the worldโs first tall ship designed to enable people of mixed physical abilities to sail side-by-side โ stood idle and deteriorating after her decommissioning in 2019 and an extended period in port languishing.
Originally designed by Colin Mudie, built at James Cook Shipyard in Wivenhoe for the Royal Jubilee Trust and fitted out at Vosper Thornycroft, STS LORD NELSON was built to carry up to 40 crew and to be fully accessible for a mixed ability crew.
GOOD PIRATESย was formed to return this remarkable vessel to action with a bold new mission: to restore her as a platform for marine conservation, humanitarian outreach, sail and seamanship training and ย zero emission wind powered transport. ย Where the ship once trained sailors of diverse abilities, she will again carry crews to fragile ย ecosystems and remote ย island communities, blending tall-ship journeys ย with impact and proving that voyaging under sail ย can serve both people and planet.
Right now, ย a crew of ย veteran sailors, engineers and volunteers have started reactivating and restoringย the much loved STS LORD NELSONย TALL SHIP TO ITS FORMER GLORY.ย

How you can help power the mission and get ย LORD NELSON back to sea!ย
- Donate: Any amount counts! Contribute now to help us reach our goal or become a monthly donor to sustain missions into the future.
- Share: Share our campaign with your friends, family, and on social media.
- Your advocacy and support will ย pull LORD NELSON back from the brink and set her back on course!ย
Thanks to you! ย With your support, this iconic and loved vessel can embark on new missionsโtraining the next generation of maritime leaders, delivering humanitarian aid to communities in need, and protecting our oceans through hands-on marine conservation.ย
Support LORD NELSON’s reactivation today and be part of a movement that turns adventure into impact.ย
Sincerely,ย
Captain Locky MacLeanย http://www.goodpirates.org
