  • What to say about Claudine? She is passionate about living a present, balanced and authentic life, with a healthy dose of humor! She loves to travel the world, explore new places, people and food, but equally loves to retreat into silent solitude. She is a writer who follows a hidden path, into an unfamiliar world. If you just surrender and go with her on her eerie journey, you will find that you have surrendered to enchantment, as if in a voluptuous and fantastic dream. She makes you believe everything she sees in her fantasy and dreams. But as well you take a journey to the frozen mountain peaks of the north of Europe, to the crowded sweating streets of Mexico or Africa. Her characters are wonderfully real and wholly believable perfectly situated in her richly textured prose. She’s a lovely person and she writes with exquisite powers of description! She’s simply great! R. McKelley

E’ semplicemente magnifica.

Why does this happen?

Watch the interview with the manager of the “amphibious” project
of the  WWF  Section Ticino

The view was horrible: hundreds of little bodies smashed on the black street under a pouring rain (I refrain from showing you pictures of it).
And the cars didn’t stop or slow down, they were racing at our sides, meanwhile, we tried to save as many as possible of these lovely little creatures.
All of them, are trying to reach the ponds on the plane to lay the eggs, after descending from the mountain where they spent the winter.
This is one of the regular phases of Mother Nature, for the frogs and toads of several species.
But we, the humans without scruples, we have crossed their trails with streets… altering the regular “Beat of the Heart Gea and her living creatures”.
There are several signs on the streets, people know well (enough to look at the corpses on the street) the drivers should pay attention and drive carefully…
We need more volunteering people, willing to spend hours at night to help save as many as possible of these little fellows.
But we are few, with goodwill and a big heart!
The WWF all over our country encourages citizens to take seriously this matter, but still, we need more support from the politics and regarding this, we could open up a debate about ethics and wild animals deserving our respect and support…

Caution: crossing frogs and toads, do not crush them!

Crossing frogs and toads!   Slow down, please.

  1. So sad. :>(

    • I know this happens in many other countries, all type of animals which have to “migrate” from one place to another forced to cross streets…
Humans should have to pay much respect to Nature!
      Have a lovely weekend :-)c

  2. oh, nooooo………..

    • Fortunately there are the WWF “volunteers” 🙂
People that after leaving their work, they stay and patrol the critical places from dusk until late in the night. Usually frogs and tods moves around between 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM… we can’t stay all night, but in the late hours there are less cars.
We try our best, with love and much care towards them: they are simply gorgeous and so fragile!
Hugs and a lot of kisses :-)c

  3. Oh, how awful! So glad you didn’t show more pictures and so happy you saved so many…….poor you having to see what you saw, as you say it doesn’t take much to slow down and allow creatures a safe passage. It isn’t an effort…so frustrating.xxx

  4. What I saw was horrible enough to make me almost vomit. Actually I wasn’t able to take pictures since my hands were shaking. Imagine that the body of some female toads, may reach 20 cm lenght (without legs). The one I found (you see her with a male loaded on the back) was around 15 cm).
In truth, it looks like drivers don’t give a damn about the frogs! Only very few slow down, other are bothered to have people on the side of the street with flashlights and reflective jackets…
As I wrote, the politicians must do some more efforts to protect Nature… and this worldwide!
    Have a lovely weekend :-)c

        Serena domenica

  6. It would be nice if they could build a tunnel for them to Cross or at least close the road during that time.

    • There is a tunnel below the Street, right now WWF is monitoring the frequency of the frogs/toads using it. The area is quite wide, and should be considered to make more of such passages. You shall keep in mind, that the amphibians descend from the hill to reach the plain with water, and after go back to the hill…
Unfortunately, isn’t possible to close the street since it is very frequented: it is the only street to connect Switzerland on the south side of the Lake Maggiore to Italy. There are hundred of “border commuters” going back and forth each day…
      🙂 serene week :-)c

  7. I lived near a low area that flooded and often had to drive over this bridge that was covered with frogs trying to escape the flooding. It was a messy transport. My daughter was young at the time and would cry when I drove over the frogs. I told her they went to frog heaven and would be happy there. I cringed when I heard the splats! Ugh! Happy to see you saved some. Blessings & hugs! ❤️

    • Perhaps, for your daughter would have been a better lesson in moral and awareness if you would have stopped, gathered with her the frogs and carry them to safety in a safe place. The pain that your daughter must have had to realize that her mother deliberately was killing small defenseless creatures, will remained anchored to her spirit… and it’s not a good thing. Did you ever think that way about it? In front of defenseless animals, humans should always show love and compassion. All time.

      • It was not a feasible thing to do there since there were hundreds of them that covered the road and it was a dark and dangerous place to stop. She understood that we could not do that. Her safety was utmost in my mind. 😢

Ti aspetto sempre sulle mie pagine.

  9. This is really sad. I’m glad they have some volunteers like you that are making a difference! Thankfully, frogs and toads lay many eggs, so each and every one that you are able to save gives a chance for the species to continue!
