I could write pages upon pages, to praise the beauty of this nation… many years ago I visited the upper part of the Peloponnese, and for work I had been many times in Athens. Over time, this nation is also a bit changed, the city has expanded, although in truth the country has remained the same ever since.
Olive groves as far as the eye can see, plantations of oranges and lemons… but what is more surprising is the beauty of its coastline, its sea!
I also had the opportunity to meet personally Marina who was able to impress me with her beautiful voice in addition to his creative genius.
From Athens we traveled to Corinth, then we visited Sparta, Mystras, Olympia and Mycenae, the best known. On the southern tip from Kalamata: the castles of Petalidi, Koroni, Methoni and Pylos, not forgetting the magnificent beaches of Voidokilia.
We stayed in Gialova, where both boys attended the sailing course organized by the Yacht Club Locarno (YCLO).
In the house of Gialova, immersed in the beauty of olive trees and oleanders, we rested mind and body.
Thanks to the perfect organization by the YCLO and Paride, the chief of the “campus”, we didn’t miss anything. Definitely to be redone, as early as next year, perhaps with the guys who will sail on bigger and challenging boats!

Potrei scrivere pagine sopra pagine, per decantare la bellezza di questa nazione… molti anni or sono avevo visitato la parte alta del Peloponneso, e per lavoro ero stata innumerevoli volte ad Atene. Nel tempo anche questa nazione è un po’ cambiata, la città si è espansa, anche se in verità la campagna è rimasta quella di allora.
Distese di ulivi a perdita d’occhio, piantagioni di arance e limoni… ma ciò che più sorprende è la bellezza delle sue coste, del suo mare!
Ho anche avuto l’occasione di conoscere personalmente Marina che ha saputo stupirmi con la sua bellissima voce oltre alla sua geniale creatività.
Da Atene siamo scesi fino a Corinto, poi abbiamo visitato Sparta, Mystras, Olympia e Micene, le più conosciute. Sulla punta sud da Kalamata: i castelli di Petalidi, Koroni, Methoni e Pylos, senza dimenticare le magnifiche spiagge di Voidokilia
Abbiamo soggiornato a Gialova, dove entrambi i ragazzi hanno partecipato al corso di vela organizzato dallo Yacht Club Locarno (YCLO).
Nella Villetta di Gialova, immersa nella bellezza di olivi secolari e oleandri, abbiamo riposato mente e corpo.
Grazie alla perfetta organizzazione da parte del YCLO e a Paride, il responsabile del “campus”, non ci è mancato nulla. Assolutamente da rifare, già il prossimo anno, magari con i ragazzi che veleggeranno su barche più grandi ed impegnative!

La Grecia vive forse un momento di profondo sconforto a causa dei “politici” di Bruxelles… ma la sua gente è coraggiosa, le loro origini affondano profonde radici in una cultura stupenda fatta non solo di bellezze architettoniche ma anche di saggezza filosofica! Aperti di cuore e generosi… un luogo che ti resta nel cuore! Se non ci sei ancora stato, per meno di 50 euro voli da Milano per Atene… Un abbraccio :-)c

I also loved the stray cats… but they are fed by Greeks… If you haven’t been there yet, is it really worth the trip! Aside from the places where there is too much tourism, in the countryside and on the coasts, it seems to be in heaven! Hugs :-)c

Ah what a dream holiday Claudine! And how wonderful that you could meet Marina! It is exactly ten years since we visited mainland Greece!! We did return briefly to visit Rhodes and Santorini, but there is so much more of the mainland that I would love to see.
In fact I was very much excited to meet Marina… she is a wonderful woman and I love her dearly! Hope to be back to see her soon in Athens because we have so much to tell… Wish you a lovely weekend, kisses :-)c

Many years ago I flew often on Athens, where I spent a night… I have always very much enjoyed this people and I’ve felt a lot of anger realizing that their current situation was caused by those who, in Brussels, rules over the politically and financially “fragile” nations. Germany, with his arrogance, should instead take their example, from their inner strength, their ancient culture… I sincerely hope that soon they can find the ease which is rightfully theirs! serenity :-)c

Your pictures remind me so much of western Turkey. It is amazing to see the similarities because of the historical ties!
In fact, Greece and Turkey are so near in ancient culture. There are beautiful places I remember I visited around 40 years ago: for example Efeso. Unfortunately, because of the political problems due to the extremist, right now these aren’t places so safe to visit… Thank you for visiting 🙂 claudine
