Legendary animal-rights leader and Holocaust survivor Alex Hershaft, a member of the JVNA Board of Directors, explains in depth for the first time the connection between his ordeal in the Warsaw Ghetto and his advocacy for farmed animals.
The video starts with a terrible and touching testimony of the cruelty of humans. There are no words to express the mixed feelings you get when looking at that 52 minutes video… The pictures from the past and these of nowadays, are awful.
A parallelism which your stomach tighten and your heart suffer. Humans are the worst animals, only men can act like this… against their own similars, against other living creatures.
Last year, I saw what happened in Ukraine in the years 1921-22, 1932-33 and 1946-47 with famine and hunger.
During 1932-33, 7 million of people, 1/3 were children, died of hunger (the Holodomor which was recognized only on 2008) since Stalin’s “process of transformation” started a depraved action by taking all the food, destroyed all the agriculture tools, took away all the animals from the Ukranian’s Kulaks.
Another story is hidden well, as thousand other similar stories happened and still happens right now in many countries of our planet.
How can men do such atrocity to other humans, to other living creature?
From the 31st. minute, you see all the valid reasons to become vegan… and fortunately, Mr. Hershaft doesn’t show us the slaughterhouses.

Il leggendario leader di diritti degli animali e sopravvissuto all’Olocausto Alex Hershaft, un membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione JVNA, spiega in modo approfondito per la prima volta il collegamento tra il suo calvario nel ghetto di Varsavia e la sua difesa per gli animali da allevamento.
Il video inizia con una terribile e toccante testimonianza della crudeltà degli esseri umani. Non ci sono parole per esprimere i sentimenti contrastanti che si hanno quando si guarda il video di 52 minuti… Le immagini del passato e quelle di oggi, sono terribili.
Un parallelismo che ti stringe lo stomaco e soffoca il cuore. Gli esseri umani sono gli animali peggiori, solo gli uomini possono agire in questo modo… contro i propri simili, nei confronti di altri esseri viventi.
L’anno scorso, ho preso atto di quanto successo in Ucraina negli anni 1921-22, 1932-33 e 1946-47, con la carestia e la fame.
Durante il 1932-1933, 7 milioni di persone, 1/3 erano bambini, sono morti di fame (l’Holodomor è stato riconosciuto solo nel 2008), in quanto nel “processo di trasformazione” di Stalin ha avuto inizio un’azione depravata nei confronti dei Kulaki ucraini: fu levato loro tutto il cibo, distrutti gli stumenti per l’agricoltura e requisito tutti gli animali.
Un’altra storia che è stata nascosta bene, come mille altre storie simili avvenute e che tutt’ora accadono in questo momento in molti paesi del nostro pianeta.
Come possono fare gli uomini tale atrocità ad altri esseri umani, ad altri esseri viventi?
