  • What to say about Claudine? She is passionate about living a present, balanced and authentic life, with a healthy dose of humor! She loves to travel the world, explore new places, people and food, but equally loves to retreat into silent solitude. She is a writer who follows a hidden path, into an unfamiliar world. If you just surrender and go with her on her eerie journey, you will find that you have surrendered to enchantment, as if in a voluptuous and fantastic dream. She makes you believe everything she sees in her fantasy and dreams. But as well you take a journey to the frozen mountain peaks of the north of Europe, to the crowded sweating streets of Mexico or Africa. Her characters are wonderfully real and wholly believable perfectly situated in her richly textured prose. She’s a lovely person and she writes with exquisite powers of description! She’s simply great! R. McKelley

E’ semplicemente magnifica.

The thrill of killing * Il brivido dell’uccidere

Brutality without limits how can you call this “sport” a passion ???

Stagione_Venatoria_Gravi_incidenti_CdT14.9.2019F.docx

Publisched: Corriere del Ticino  Sept. 14th, 2019

In the press you can find many articles that praise the value of this “discipline”, emphasizing its importance at national level as a means to regulate the populations of wild animals, mainly ungulates.
In Switzerland there are almost 29,000 hunters (of which 5,000 are only in Ticino) and in recent years there has been a very marked increase in the percentage of women. One of the new fanatics of this pseudo-sport, she also released a baffling interview where she tells of the beginning of her passion at the age of 6, following her hunter father.  Then continuing with hallucinatory utterances with a fluency of speech as a preacher against ethics as well as not very sagacious, in order to show off,  she exposes herself in that way, in fact making herself ridiculous.
I asked myself a couple of questions, after reading about the Setter killed by a shot of a hunter who had mistaken him for a boar, of the deadly fall of an old man or 25-year-old who was hit in the hand.
It is to be prayed that no other incident occurs (at the time of writing was not yet known the very serious fact of Pedrinate, e.n., see page of the Mendrisiotto ) although there will be many animals that will be brutally killed and for them there will be no one crying.

But a news that shows strong courage and is a demonstration of sensitivity towards the protection of the ecosystem, is that of the Honorable Claudio Zali, who takes sides with the ailing species (for example the white partridge). We need politicians like him, people who do not let themselves be bent by the diktat of federations or groups that think only of the interests of a few and not those of the 350,000 (non-hunters) residing in the canton of Ticino. It is not a question of dialogue because the party in question does not want to hear reasons.

Actually, this article was written and sent to the Newpaper few days earlier… When I read about the new fatal accident, I saw myself projected into the G.G. Marques’ novel “Chronicle of a death foretold”. Distressing. Very sad. And on the website of the Ticino Hunters Federation it reads: “We hope that all hunters and their families can live their passion with serenity”. What will the president of the Ticinese hunting federation Efrem Regazzi report in one of his next speeches? It seems paradoxical “to live one’s passion with serenity” when someone has died.
How can you explain that (every type of weapon) can kill? And not just animal preys that can’t defend themselves!

…oOo…

And… again: hatred towards wolves

Unfortunately the arrogance spreads and creates hatred and misinformation among the citizens.
Of course I would never have expected from a man of culture, complete with studies in molecular biology and doctorate as well as dozens of scientific publications, international congresses  and so on and so forth, a banal exit like “isn’t that a couple of well-placed bullets cost less?”
This same person had also been in the front line against the creation of the Parco del Locarnese. Certainly, dear prof. PhD Sandro Rusconi. But not everyone, in the specific case of the wolf, we share your profound intolerance and diligence in wanting to kill rather than find solutions. I hope that you didn’t express this type of “life thesis” during the lessons she gave years ago in the elementary schools of Locarno, as I hope it is a trivial release on FB, then hurriedly dismissed and forgotten.
It is not killing that we find solutions, and this is not a fact. Certainly humans have an easy trigger, just consider that in every corner of the planet we have conflicts in place, wars that kill millions of people… and animals. I avoid bringing up a list, you just need to read the newspapers or turn on the television to realize that violence, crime and death are practically everywhere.
I reiterate that you can live with the great predators (that were instill here before us) and that there are solutions to be implemented rather than killing an animal that could (I say could) tear to pieces sheep or goats.
If in Trentino and Veneto they are experimenting with the possibility of monitoring wolves through a radio collar, why not opt for this possibility?

I am not insensitive to the fact that the flock of the breeder Mr. Hüppi has suffered losses, indeed, I regret that due to bad weather the lone wolf attacked and managed to blend in. I hope that there were also dogs specifically bred to “protect the flocks” (I refer to the Abruzzese Maremma breeds and the Pyrenean mountain dog see www.bafu.admin.ch protection of flocks).

It is not sufficient to lay electrified nets to contain sheep during the night: whereas in the specification, the attack took place in broad daylight with adverse weather conditions. And doesn’t help having a couple of extra shepherds: the wolf is a clever animal although very shy and can only compete with one of his “peers”: a dog specifically bred to cope with the presence of his “ancestor”.
Unfortunately, I do not think the breeder’s idea of bringing the animal down at sight, which, after all, could also be an escaped dog, a hybrid or perhaps even a lynx, is feasible…
It also happens to hunters, very expert with their rifles equipped with a night vision scope, who sometimes shoot at a “something” that vaguely resembled prey… and then they realize that they have knotted their dog or even their hunter friend (and this has happened right last week before I send my article to the newspaper).

Remember that in Switzerland we have (still) a law that protects large predators, the latter are used to maintain a healthy ecosystem, we should therefore apply wisdom and sagacity by doing everything possible to avoid an extermination of animals making us return to 1800 year in which they had died out of our territory.

E mio marito, è dello stesso avviso!

Why kill for sport? * Perché uccidere per sport?

What do the white partridge and wolf have in common?

Much has been written in recent times about the white partridge; those who protect it, those who are ready to cite by law articles that determine their freedom of killing, as it is legitimate for the pros and cons to be expressed, in the democratic freedom of our country (Switzerland).
My personal opinion, which is not reflected in federal or cantonal laws, is that killing for sport and not for survival is an act of useless violence.
More and more people, who have realized that speciesism is harmful, have made conscious food choices.
It doesn’t matter if to kill the white partridge you have to reach 2’000 meters of altitude by walking for hours, or if in the viewfinder ends, by mistake, the black pheasant or the woodcock. To accommodate their hunting needs, hunters are nowadays increasingly equipped with technologically first-rate and sophisticated equipment.
How can this type of activity be defined as sport, I have been asking myself for a long time.
And yet the Man, this sentient being, endowed with acute intelligence, and here we could quibble, allows himself to legislate on how and when he can kill another creature of the lower defined species?
I leave to the ones the freedom to speak in defense of their principles, and to the others to consider them unfair.
Anthropocentrism has led us to the current situation, where Man, by defrauding nature, has removed the territory from other species and finds himself (right now) in a situation of catastrophic global crisis.
But sometimes, nature thinks of herself by taking revenge!
I do not deny a feeling of satisfaction reading the news of the presence of a specimen of a wolf in Alta Leventina, sighted by hunters in order to “monitoring” the area in view of the opening of the high hunt. And this is another demonstration of how they proceed, already well in advance, to probe the possibilities of killing ungulates, which apparently, and thanks to the presence of the predator, have become wary and do not come out into the open, which thus disperse and cause less damage to nature and human activities, such as agriculture or fruit growing.
It is only to be hoped that the owners of the flocks present in those places have taken all the precautions, recommended by the various cantonal and federal offices so that there are no predations.
And we hope that the wolves are smarter than the hunters, maintaining the necessary distances from their most bitter predators: human beings.

Cosa accomuna pernice bianca e lupo?
