Kiev – Ukraine… struggling to be part of the EU

This was my first visit to Ukraine. In Kiev I already had several stopover, when I worked for the swiss national airline, but at that time were not provided overnight stays.
I did not know exactly what to expect and I had not time to do a search on the web… somehow I preferred to be surprised since the political turmoil didn’t let me indifferent.
The flight with Ukraine International Airlines was quiet and comfortable: no service is provided but on board you can buy drinks and food. The planes are new and clean, the cabin staff is multilingual and helpful.
Once in the city, we were greeted by a person who took us to our reserved taxi, which drove us to the hotel Natzionalni. The palace is an imposing structure, typical of the buildings of the Soviet Communist era.     [read the full post and see more pictures]

Questa è stata la mia prima visita dell’Ucraina. A Kiev avevo già fatto scalo diverse volte, quando lavoravo per la compagnia aerea di bandiera, ma non erano previsti pernottamenti.
Non sapevo esattamente cosa attendermi e non avevo avuto tempo per fare una ricerca sul web… ho preferito lasciarmi sorprendere.
Il volo con l’Ukraine International Airlines è stato tranquillo e comodo: nessun servizio è previsto ma si può acquistare bevande e cibo. Gli aerei sono nuovi e puliti, il personale di cabina è multilingue e disponibile.
Arrivati in città, siamo stati accolti da una persona che ci ha portati al nostro taxi riservato, che ci ha quindi trasportarci all’albergo Natzionalni. Il palazzo è di struttura è imponente, tipica delle costruzioni del periodo comunista sovietico.  [qui leggi e vedi più fotografie]
