Together: to succeed in overcoming the fears of the uncertain future.
I wrote this during the pandemic sars-cov 2, February 2020.
The current situation leads us to deep reflections.
Every day, we are confronted with having to deal not only with the normal fear of the individual related to the atavistic “law of survival,” but also with a huge flood of information of all kinds.
In the technological age, the comparison with what appears in real time on the Internet, does not allow us to sift through what information is reliable and what information is hoax.
Adding to personal discouragement is that of being helpless spectators of situations certainly more dramatic than one’s own.
There are people severely affected by the virus who cannot be received in the hospitals due to the lack of life supports, family members who are desperate at the limit of the threshold of psychic endurance, health care personnel in the impossibility of following their deontology and therefore confronted with the most atrocious of situations: choosing whom to let live.
This is the time when each of us must contribute, to the support and presence of those who cannot find comfort, to also actively help those debilitated people who have no one to turn to. Every word, action or reassurance is important. No one should feel left out in the cold, especially the most vulnerable and lonely.
This is a situation that none of us was prepared for; it caught us by surprise, off guard, since in our way of thinking, we were led to believe that the distance from the place where it all started would somehow preserve us.
But it did not.
Everywhere we have acted late, too late, we continue to slow down drastic and unpopular decisions, which are, however, the only solution that is not debatable.
But it is reassuring to see the demonstrations of solidarity with the elderly, the sick, those who are now confined to their homes. Many of them are afraid, a stressful feeling that requires even more support from family members, for those who still have families.
Many people without jobs or with cancelled contracts have flocked to the Employment Offices, where employees are showing tremendous social support and solidarity, trying to have a word of reassurance for everyone.
No, this is not a real war where we barricade ourselves in bunkers; the enemy is invisible and anyone can be a carrier without having symptoms of disease. And that is it, the worst vehicle of contamination, and we are helpless not knowing what else may happen in the coming weeks, months.
Carefully following the recommendations issued by the appropriate media outlets is the only way to avoid catastrophic expansion.
Now our politicians, governments, will be faced with pressing decisions that have to bring reassurance to every segment of the population.
Without forgetting anyone. Without excluding anyone, even those who have (by law) no rights to receive some of compensation–and I know there were already some before the arrival of the virus. Now these people, no longer entitled to unemployment, no longer entitled to social assistance or benefits for former independents, or even those who are independent but all of a sudden can no longer work as a result of events, are the ones who distress the most in their inability to get concrete answers from politicians.
We must not forget them, any of them. Only united, together and with mutual support can we succeed in defeating this test that will show us our deepest vulnerability. No one will be left alone.
Insieme: per riuscire a sconfiggere le paure del futuro incerto.
L’ho scritto durante la pandemia sars-cov 2, nel febbraio 2020.
L’attuale situazione ci porta a delle profonde riflessioni.
Ogni giorno, ci troviamo confrontati con il dover affrontare non solo la normale paura del singolo legata all’atavica “legge della sopravvivenza”, ma anche con una marea immane di informazioni di ogni tipo.
Nell’era tecnologica, il confronto con quanto appare in tempo reale su internet, non ci permette di vagliare quali informazioni sono attendibili e quali sono invece delle panzane.
Allo sconforto personale, si aggiunge quello d’essere spettatori impotenti di situazioni certamente più drammatiche della propria.
Ci sono persone gravemente affette dal virus che non possono essere accolte nei nosocomi a causa della mancanza di supporti vitali, famigliari che sono disperati al limite della soglia della sopportazione psichica, personale sanitario nell’impossibilità di seguire la propria deontologia e pertanto confrontati alla più atroce delle situazioni: scegliere chi lasciar vivere.
Questo è il momento nel quale ognuno di noi deve contribuire, al sostegno e presenza di chi non riesce a trovare un conforto, ad aiutare anche in modo attivo quelle persone debilitate che non hanno nessuno a cui rivolgersi. Ogni parola, azione o rassicurazione è importante. Nessuno deve sentirsi lasciato allo sbaraglio, in special modo le persone più vulnerabili e sole.
Questa è una situazione alla quale nessuno di noi era preparato, ci ha colti di sorpresa, alla sprovvista, dacché nel nostro modo di pensare, eravamo portati a credere che la lontananza dal luogo dove il tutto è partito, ci avrebbe in qualche modo preservati.
Ma non è stato così.
Ovunque si ha agito con ritardo, troppo, si continua a rallentare decisioni drastiche e impopolari, che sono però l’unica soluzione non opinabile.
Ma è rassicurante vedere le dimostrazioni di solidarietà verso gli anziani, gli ammalati, quelli che sono ora confinati nelle proprie dimore. Molti di loro hanno paura, una sensazione stressante che richiede ancora maggiore sostegno dai famigliari, per quelli che una famiglia ancora ce l’hanno.
Molte persone senza lavoro o con i contratti annullati si sono riversate presso gli Uffici di Collocamento, dove gli impiegati stanno dando prova di enorme sostegno sociale e solidarietà, cercando d’avere per tutti una parola di rassicurazione.
No, non è una guerra reale dove ci si barrica nei bunker; il nemico è invisibile e chiunque può essere portatore senza avere sintomi di malattia. Ed è questo, il peggiore veicolo di contaminazione, e siamo inermi non sapendo cos’altro potrà accadere nelle prossime settimane, mesi.
Seguire con scrupolo le raccomandazioni diramate dagli appositi organi di informazione è l’unica possibilità di evitare un’espansione catastrofica.
Ora i nostri politici, i governi, saranno confrontati con decisioni impellenti che abbiano a portare delle rassicurazioni ad ogni fascia della popolazione.
Senza dimenticare nessuno. Senza escludere nessuno, anche quelli che non hanno (per legge) dei diritti a percepire qualche di indennizzo… e so che già ce n’erano prima dell’arrivo del virus. Ora queste persone, senza più diritto alla disoccupazione, senza diritto all’assistenza sociale o alle indennità per ex indipendenti, o ancora quelli che sono indipendenti ma che a tutto un tratto non possono più lavorare a conseguenza degli eventi, sono quelle che maggiormente angustiano nell’impossibilità di avere delle risposte concrete da parte dei politici.
Non dobbiamo dimenticarci di loro, di nessuno di loro. Solo uniti, insieme e con reciproco sostegno potremo riuscire a sconfiggere questa prova che ci mostrerà la nostra più profonda vulnerabilità. Nessuno sarà lasciato solo.
