  • What to say about Claudine? She is passionate about living a present, balanced and authentic life, with a healthy dose of humor! She loves to travel the world, explore new places, people and food, but equally loves to retreat into silent solitude. She is a writer who follows a hidden path, into an unfamiliar world. If you just surrender and go with her on her eerie journey, you will find that you have surrendered to enchantment, as if in a voluptuous and fantastic dream. She makes you believe everything she sees in her fantasy and dreams. But as well you take a journey to the frozen mountain peaks of the north of Europe, to the crowded sweating streets of Mexico or Africa. Her characters are wonderfully real and wholly believable perfectly situated in her richly textured prose. She’s a lovely person and she writes with exquisite powers of description! She’s simply great! R. McKelley

E’ semplicemente magnifica.

Mike VI is Dead: Tell LSU to Stop Exploiting Tigers!

Article taken from PETA Org

tiger-pixabay

Update: Months ago, when we learned that Mike VI, Louisiana State University’s (LSU) tiger mascot, had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, we urged the school to ensure that he would be the last tiger to endure a lifetime of exploitation and confinement at LSU. Now, Mike VI is dead. Please help us renew our call for the school to do right by Mike VI and all the Mikes who came before him by using only willing, costumed human mascots from now on.

What do captive, caged tigers have to do with Louisiana State University (LSU) football? Oh, that’s right: nothing. But LSU has been exploiting tigers for years as it drags the newest version of Mike the tiger, a live tiger mascot, into the stadium for football games. The school is currently on its sixth Mike, as five other tigers by the same name have come and gone before him, and Mike VI was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. There has never been a more opportune time to end animal abuse at LSU.

Captive big cats, who naturally shun human contact, are deprived of everything that is natural and important to them. They live in perpetual states of confinement, discomfort, and stress and, at LSU games, are subjected to a constant barrage of disorienting lights and activity. They often become despondent and develop neurotic and self-destructive types of behavior, including pacing, bar-biting, and self-mutilation. Tigers are particularly unsuited to captivity because they require large areas to roam and opportunities to swim and climb. Even under the best of care, a tiger’s most basic instincts are thwarted in captivity.

It’s time for LSU to recognize society’s growing disdain for animal exploitation and bring a new tradition to the university—one that uses only willing, costumed human mascots. Join us in urging LSU officials to make Mike VI the last of the school’s live mascots.

Speak up for tigers!

Tilikum’s Life Story Will Bring You to Tears

Article taken from PETA Blog

Tilikum died in a barren tank on January 6, 2017, at SeaWorld. He was the largest orca in captivity, weighing 12,500 pounds and measuring over 22 feet in length.

When he was just 2 years old, Tilikum was captured from his family and ocean home near Iceland. That was in 1983—over 30 years ago. He has never seen his family since then. This was the beginning of his living nightmare.

After his capture, the young whale was kept in a cement holding tank for nearly a year at Hafnarfjörður Marine Zoo in Iceland to await transfer to a marine park. Held captive against his will, all he could do was swim in small circles and float aimlessly at the surface of the water, far from the expansive ocean in which he had swum every day alongside his family members.

Finally, Tilikum was transferred to the rundown marine park, Sealand of the Pacific, in British Columbia, Canada. A barren 100-foot-by-50-foot pool—just 35 feet deep—was his sad new “home.”

Food was withheld from Tilikum as a training technique, and he regularly endured painful attacks by two dominant female orcas, Haida and Nootka. He was forced to perform every hour on the hour, eight times a day, seven days a week. The constant stress and exhaustion gave him stomach ulcers.

When the park closed at the end of each day, the three incompatible orcas were crammed into a tiny round metal-sided module for more than 14 hours until the park reopened the next morning.

On February 21, 1991, Sealand trainer Keltie Byrne fell into the pool containing all three orcas. She was pulled to the bottom of the enclosure by Tilikum, tossed around among the three orcas, and ultimately drowned. It took Sealand employees two hours to recover her body from the orcas. She was the first of three people to be killed because of Tilikum’s confinement, stress, and frustration.

Shortly after Byrne’s death, Sealand closed its doors for good and put Tilikum up for sale as though he were nothing more than a commodity.

SeaWorld officials quickly purchased Tilikum for the marine park’s breeding program, apparently giving little thought to his reputation for aggression and killing. Tilikum’s sperm was used to build a collection of orcas, and now, 54 percent of SeaWorld’s orcas have his genes. He has now been at SeaWorld for over 21 years and has 11 living children and four grandchildren.

The stress of captivity drove Tilikum to exhibit abnormal repetitive behavior and has also caused him to continue to exhibit aggression toward humans, costing two more lives—those of Daniel P. Dukes in 1999 and Dawn Brancheau in 2010. Tilikum scalped and dismembered Brancheau as well as breaking bones throughout her body before drowning her.

tilikum-googlemaps-image

After a year in virtual isolation, Tilikum was returned to performing. SeaWorld unsuccessfully appealed its citation for violating a federal workplace safety law meant to protect workers from recognized life-threatening hazards. The company recklessly continued to allow trainers to swim with orcas behind the scenes and interact with them in shallow areas without any barrier or minimum distance, leading to yet another series of citations for endangering workers.

Tilikum is not the only orca who has become aggressive as a result of all the stress that the whales are forced to endure in the small tanks at SeaWorld. The park’s own records contain 600 pages of incident reports documenting dangerous and unanticipated orca behavior with trainers, consisting of more than 100 incidents in which killer whales bit, rammed, lunged at, pulled, pinned, and swam aggressively with SeaWorld trainers. Many of these incidents led to human injuries, including a near-death encounter experienced by trainer Ken Peters.

dawn-brancheau-orca-seaworld

Aggression toward humans and among orcas is nearly non-existent in nature, but the constant stress of living in incompatible social groupings inside minuscule tanks at SeaWorld causes some orcas to lash out, posing a danger both to other whales and to employees.

It’s too late for Tilikum, but we can help the other animals still trapped at SeaWorld. Remember: Every dollar spent on a SeaWorld ticket contributes to animals’ misery. Never go to any SeaWorld park, and urge your friends and family to stay away, too. Together, we can shut down SeaWorld for good!

No chains. No cages. No tanks.

The snow came back last night * ieri notte è tornata la neve

The snow came back and the thermometer’s mercury reads O° celsius (32° Fahrenheit). I look around women in fur coats, young people wearing jackets with  hoods decorated with fur, men with thick padded goose down jackets

Everyone should know the truth behind these items of clothing!

.

The farmer in this video casually describes ripping the bloody pelts off minks’ bodies, snapping the animals’ penis bones and using old pruning shears to cut off their paws.

Do you have friends or family members who still wear fur? Remind them that there is no federal humane slaughter protection for animals on fur farms–even the most cruel and barbaric killing methods are perfectly legal. In China, one of the world’s largest fur exporters, even cats and dogs are skinned alive for their fur, which is then mislabeled and sold to unsuspecting consumers in countries all over the world.

The fur industry would have you believe that fashion justifies such torture, but there is never any excuse for such barbaric treatment of animals.

Join PETA in protecting minks and other animals who are killed for fur. Share this video and encourage everyone you know to choose only animal-friendly clothing.

All around the world, at fur farms like this one, minks—as well as rabbits, foxes, and other animals—are crammed into barren cages and have the skin ripped off their bodies, all to make fur coats, collars, and trinkets. Fur farmers use the cheapest killing methods  available, including suffocation, electrocution, poisoning, and gassing. At this farm, the farmer grabs the minks by their sensitive tails and shoves them into a crude wooden “kill box” to be gassed with carbon monoxide. One mink in this video- like many animals killed for their fur- doesn’t die immediately. After admitting, “I see chests moving,” the farmer then tries to break the mink’s neck by slamming the animal against the side of the gas chamber.

available—all of them cruel—including suffocation, electrocution, poison, or gas (as you see at this farm). Animals killed for their fur don’t always die immediately, and many suffer intensely as they struggle to survive.

The truth in the mirror * la verità allo specchio

In my stories I try to change reality… my characters come out on tiptoe from my dreams… or they are real people in disguise.

Unfortunately, the reality, the raw and true one, which we’re unwilling facing every day, is there before our eyes.
I apologize to the people who (like me) have weak stomachs, but having arrived the winter, I want to introduce to you the suffering… the dreadful pain… of those animals that despite their will are used to mitigate the human’s rigors of the season.

It is not fur, skin or derivatives, I’m talking about living animals subjected to terrible torture.
I leave you to judge!

I just put three of the movies I found on the web… go, pay a visit to    PETA.ORG   and watch other examples of atrocities (but belive me, you need an iron stomach).

And here something about sheep wool…

Dovremmo provare a strapparci i capelli…
Lascio a voi di giudicare.
