Not on the map are the small Venezuelan “Los Roques” islets, located directly north of the capital Caracas. In the last 20 years, they have become pure tourist destinations whereas when I visited them in early 1990, they were solely inhabited by a few fishermen and were reached from Caracas by a (rather rickety) DC-3.
